Quick fix

Hi all,

I was thinking this morning about how we usually want quick fixes in life. I’m definitely a culprit as someone who sometimes gets frustrated that the microwave is taking too long! When it comes to controlling my weight I would definitely prefer a magic diet pill than the much harder alternatives! The result in life though is usually the opposite of lasting change and growth.

I was doing a Bible study this morning on our role and God’s role in producing lasting change in our lives. Here is the highlights:

Eternally safe and secure

Hi folks,

I have been struck reading the gospel of John recently and how Jesus did not die prematurely. It has a lot to say about how God keeps Christians so that not one will be lost.

In chapter 7v1, it says that Jesus didn’t go about in Judea because the Jews were trying to kill him. In v30 it says no one could lay a hand on Him because his ‘hour had not yet come’. So Jesus was kept safe because He was wise about how he lived and where He went. He was also kept safe because the . . . → Read More: Eternally safe and secure

The Call

Hi folks

I’ve been reminded from Micah this morning that at the heart of what it means to live the Christian life is love:

“He has showed you, O people, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6v8).

If I am honest I don’t always act justly, or love mercy when it comes to my ‘neighbour’. And of course that’s a symptom of not walking humbly with my God.

I’m praying for all of us that we would be deeply affected . . . → Read More: The Call

Hi all Inspiring quote from the famous missionary David Livingstone: “I place no value on anything I have or may possess, except in relation to the kingdom of God. If anything will advance the interests of the kingdom, it shall be given away or kept, only as by giving or keeping it I shall most promote the glory of Him to whom I owe all my hopes in time or eternity.” What a heart for God! Crucial Focus

Hi folks

As I said on Sunday I believe the scripture the Lord is speaking to us for this year is Acts 26v17b-18:

“…I am sending you to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.”

This is very exciting because it means we will grow this year. Reaching out to people is a great catalyst for growth as it causes us to:

Hi folks

I liked this quote from Oswald Chambers about what faith is:

“Faith is deliberate confidence in the character of God whose ways you might not understand at the time”

I like the “deliberate” part.

New Year’s Resolution

Hi folks

I want to encourage you to make an early New years resolution for 2015. Lets make it a year where we really draw close to God! With this in mind I want to recommend a daily devotional that you can buy for yourself or others for Christmas. The author, Paul David Tripp, is excellent and this will help get 2015 off to a great start.

Ever met an angel?

Hi all,

Maturity for a Christian involves the two loves from the two greatest commandments, love God and love your neighbour. I have been reflecting on how do this and at the same time obey the great commission of reaching out with the gospel to our neighbours (anyone we come across).

Hebrews 13v2 tells us “Do not neglect to show hospitality”. I think this is something easy to neglect which is tragic as it enables us to show our love for God, in loving others and providing a natural environment to talk about our faith.

Why not set a . . . → Read More: Ever met an angel?

Lets all calm down!

Hi folks,Just a reminder from Sunday morning when we were looking at being quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger.I suggested that if you particularly struggle in this area a good idea is to keep a journal that you can write in when you over heat! Something like this:

1. What was the trigger? For example, the kids spilt milk on the carpet.

2. How did I respond? For example, I shouted and slammed doors, and I felt really unappreciated.

3. What did I want? For example, my children to not make a mess and to . . . → Read More: Lets all calm down!

Ephesians Daily Reading Introduction

Hi all,

I hope you were inspired yesterday to get into the book of Ephesians. This week we are reading one chapter a day. Today is chapter 1!

As I mentioned it can be really helpful to read the chapter through and then go through it again trying to answer the following questions:

1. What does it tell me about God? (example: v2 – God is a gracious Father)

2. What does it say about me? (example: v3 – I am blessed!)

3. Is there a promise to claim? (example – v14 my salvation and inheritance is guaranteed).
